Thread: Switching containers

    Default Switching containers

Im throwing around the idea of changeing from my nano cube to a regular 10 gallon when I add my sump. How much of a cycle would there be if I were to move everything into the new tank. I would move all the rock, sand, water, and livestock all at once. The only thing new would be the container it is all in. When I do this should I hook the sump/fuge up at the sametime or does a fuge need to cycle seperatly?

    Thanks,
    Mike

The sandbed could be a disaster. Lots of bacteria in there. I'd put everything in buckets with airstones, move the sand and let it settle for a couple hours. Vacuum up any silt, then add the livestock back.

So would the best thing to do be to cycle the fuge before connecting it to the main tank. Then when the fuge has cycled move all the livestock and rock into a bucket, transfer the sand and let it settle, add the live stock back to the main tank, and connect the fuge to the main tank. Haveing the fuge hooked up with lots of macro should help take care of any ammonia or nitrite spike shouldnt it? How much of a cylce after the transfer do think I should expect?

    Thanks,

i had big problems with my nanocube when i tried moving it from s.a. to austin, the sand bed got tossed around just a little bit and the tank had to recycle again, 3 weeks. the worst of it was that i had no other tanks to transfer the corals to. i lost about 1/4-1/3 of coral and 1 sexy shrimp outa 6. since the new 'thing' in nanos is barebottom, y not ditch the sand and just transfer over the rock, livestock and most of old water. i would do the white cutting board bottom, imo. that way there is no recycle time! plus no worrying about sand getttin blown around on coral by powerheads!
