    Default goniopora

very mad at myself...since really getting involved with the hobby about 1 year ago I have taken much pride in doing extensive research on any fish/inverts to put in my aquarium.

well wouldn't you know the only time that I did not do it and took advice from an uninformed LFS clerk it has come back to haunt me.

it was the first impulse buy that I have ever made and it will be the last!

I bought what was called a flower pot coral, which is a kind of GONIOPORA, about 3 months ago and right before my eyes it is slowly withering away. it was soo beautiful at the LFS and I was told that it was fairly easy to keep...

if there is anyone that can give this coral a better home than I, then please come by and get it...thanks!

Don't feel too bad. I've never heard of anyone having any luck with these corals.

I have stayed away from those. Richard at CB Pets told me they were tough to keep.

Sorry you got one of these too. The real shame is that the LFS keep ordering and selling to those that don't know. Yes they are very beautiful, but I've never heard of anyone successfully keeping them for any length of time. Keep to your system of research, and low impulse.

I had one for a little over a year before it went to Davy Jones locker. Awesome corals, too bad they do not survive even in the hands of the pro's.

I did that to an elegance once. I actually did find some vender's info that said they are hardy first. Then when it got sick I did more research and found that recently collected ones have not done so well. oops.

from the reading that I have done lately I believe that they slowly die in a typical reef aquarium due to the LACK of nutrients in the water...their habitat is usually in a lagoon in murky slow moving water.

so our tanks are too clean and have too much flow and light...go figure...maybe in a fuge?
