    Default Ocean Encounters

Just wanted to let folks know, if they don't already, about this site. Prices are great and the service was excellent. Even called me to let me know that one of my items was going to be back ordered and when it would be shipped according to their records for arrivals of that item.

I just bought the 400 watt and are pleased with them. The only thing I wish they did differently was with the chord to the lamp from the ballast, they don't have a quick disconnect on them, easy fix I just cut and added male and female regular plug ends to make my own.

Thanks, I'll look into one of these.

By the way, what is the recommend amoung of light (watts/gal) for SPS coral? My memory seems to have wondered off.

If you are going halide it's more off of the depth of the tank than (watts/gal). I overkilled on lights a long time ago and was running 2 400 watt lights on a 75 gallon. Glad I did since I'm upgrading to 180 now, but I believe they said 250 watt is good up to 24 inch deep then go to 400 watt. Of course this is all taken with a grain of salt and you decide what you really want.

I was thinking that it might be something like that. I currently have a 45 breeder with a 175w 10K MH pendant over it. We're getting ready to move to our new house, so I'm building a canopy and am looking at a deeper tank. I'd like to go to a 70 gallon setup (36x18x25) and run a couple of 250's over it, but it depends on the wife and how much, if any extra money that we end up with. If not, I'll just stick the single 175 inside the canopy for now.
