Thread: Killer Flame Angel?

    Default Killer Flame Angel?

I have a FOWLR set-up, and added a flame angel about six months ago (thought it would be my final addition). Never was aggressive toward any other fish. Last week, I lost 2 blue/green chromis, and found my arrow crab eating them. Found my yellow tang dead two days later. The arrow was promptly donated. Yesterday I found my coral banded shrimp eating the carcass of my firefish goby. I have never had any predatory problems. I studied the situation for about 4 hours last night, and noticed my flame angel chasing my remaining fish - saddleback clown, pseudochromis. Not really violent, just harassing. I have a 72g bowfront. pH 8.2, temp.-steady 79-80, nitrates, nitrite, ammonia-0, calcium-450, alk.-3.0 meq/L. Fish, shrimp, snails all look great. Any thoughts?

that same thing happened to me after I dripped Kalk, I apparently didnt let it sit long enough. I caught my brittle star eating all my fish, so i banished him to my sump.

my flame has shown no signs of aggresion what so every.......that happened to me and I started loosing fish like crazy and what I figured it out to be what that I didn't have enough Oxy exchange and my fish were slowly sufficating to death. Just a thought.

My flame killed my firefish and use to pick on the clowns. The royal gramma holds his own though.

I doubt it is the brittle star. Check water parameters again. You might have had an ammonia spike with all the dead fish and that is causing the continuing damage.

I agree with Blake, with all those dead fish you will get a ammonia spike.
I dont think the flame angel did it. IMHO
Is it harassing the other fish so much they wont even eat or are the other fish still eating?
