    Default Sohal Tang

I have an opportunity to get a really nice sohal tang. This will be the last tang added to my tank and the last large fish added as well.

My current fish list in the 215 is as follows:

9 Yellow Tangs (of varying sizes, mostly smaller)
    1 Purple Tang (large)
    1 Emperor Angel (very large)
    8 Blue Green Chromis
    4 Engineer gobies
    1 flame hawk
1 long nosed hawk (trapped in the overflow, he does not count)
    1 Maroon Clown (big)

Would the sohal be a complete disaster or would he be ok? Rather, would my other fish be OK? Especially the Emperor. He is the focal fish of my tank and I do not want him messed with.

Ordinarily, I would not really be looking at a sohal, but this one is very nice and healthy. It is very tempting, but I do not want to endanger my other fish.

    What do you think?

Sohal Tangs can have a very nasty attitude. If I were to place one in my tank(180). I would choose a young one 3 - 4 inches in length. They are so beautiful. I would also make it my last "large" fish as it will have "my tank syndrome" in a short time. Little fish added later would probably be O.K.

The one I am looking at is between 6 and 8" or so if I remember correctly.

I don't know about that one. My friend added one to his tank and had to pull him out later on since he was beating up on everybody even though he was the last addition, granted his was more like 8 - 9 "

get one but get him small and wait until you have added everything else that you want to add.

What a beautiful fish. I once saw a 12 inch sohal tang kill a 12 inch clown trigger in a 500 gallon tank. I would be afraid that a 6 to 8 inch sohal what wipe out you current stock of fish.
IMO I would not add him.

OK, thanks for all the advice. I think I will pass on him. Adding the sohal is making me too nervous. I really like my school of yellows and do not want to disturb them. I might add a Naso instead.

You are very wise, Grasshopper. Got a sweet Blonde Naso, you should stop by and check him out.
