I noticed that Home Depot has some Philips Mugol socket bulbs. They don't have a kalvin rating on them, just says crisp white color. Anyone knows what spectrum they are? and has anyone used them on a reef tank?

Why not just try it out?
If it is anything like the "cool white" you see on incandescent bulbs, I wouldn't expect to much out of them as far as color is concerned.

I found the data sheets on philips.com and it looks like they are all around 4900K. I guess that would be too yellow.

I guess you could grow lots of algae with that bulb.

Thanks for the tip Pete. I think I'll go out to HD this weekend- or I should say I'll add that to my list I already have for HD this weekend...

God find Pete, I just don't understand the idea of changing a fuge light out every 6 months or so if it will last 4 to 5 years.
Will the change in spectrum cause and algea bloom. :?
Thanks for the tip as well Pete...
