    Default shipping/freight to Hawaii

    I'm moving soon to Hawaii
and was wondering if anyone has had any
good experience shipping stuff down there ....

I was thinking of using some airline freight carrier ?

just shipping a bike, my computer, and scuba gear
    (the scuba tanks are heavy)

    any suggestions ? ...

    thanks

Air is fine, you can also ship ground. They load the stuff in those Air/Water containers and ship them over via, get this, Ships...LOL.... Both ways are reasonable if you don't need it over night. As far as scuba gear you are allowed 2 bags 50lbs each on the airlines. Most of your gear can go with you.

I've had several people go on business trips and carry all their scuba gear except the tanks. They just rent and you could do that until your tanks arived via a slower method. Even UPS wouldn't be too much, I shipped a couple of BOSE 901s several years ago and they weren't too bad, I think around $19 a piece.

you can also pay about $50 extra on most airlines to take a piece of cargo, but you also have to give up one bag. but, the budget traveler thing to do here is go down to the bike shop and get one of those boxes that they get their new bikes in, they'll usually give you one, then pack your clothes and anything else that will fit in the same box. this also pads your bike a little. then you get to claim it right then and there when the plane lands, no waiting while your bike does a solo world tour on some cargo ship.
