I have a quick question about the Stream pumps. They push a TON of water, but do they tend to blow the sand around? My 4 MJ1200's rearrange the sand all day long.

From the ones I've seen run they didn't cause huge sand storms. This was on a tall tank though, but the thing to remember is it is large volume of water movement but not high pressure.
Where should you position them? I have 4 MJ1200's, but they have to hang on the overflow because they wont fit over the Oceanic trim. They are all realitively high in the tank. Same for the return nozzles, and the returns for the closed loop. Is there a way to put it lower in the tank?
The MJ powerheads have suction cup mounts so you can mount them anywhere you want. Just have to keep an eye on them as they sometimes lose suction and fall off.

They have a wide flow, stronger near the pump outlet and widenening greatly. Still definitely strong enough to blow even large grained sand about in a large tank. I had to fiddle with mine several times to get them to not make divots in the sandbed and still provide good flow.
Still the best powerheads you can buy for the money in my opinion.
The mounting hardware is a pain as they are designed for euro style tanks but you can get other options from Tunze including a magnetic mount which will be available soon.

Chris,
The "sometimes" fall off? I have six of them and had to reattach 3 of them this AM. I too have the same problem of using the hangers on the trim. Has anyone ever tried using super glue or silicone on the suction cups? Maybe I could get Dan to make me some custom hangers out of acrylic that I could attach the off the shelf hangers to. I'm sure he has some scrap acrylic that could be used for this.

Mike,
Please let us know about the magnetic mounts. I sent the previous msg. before I saw yours. That sounds like a solution worth exploring.

Joshua,
I cleaned the glass and suction cups real well before I originally mounted the MJ's. You are probably right in that I need to go back and do some re-cleaning.

My Stream 6100 would blow the sand back from across the tank. They are very powerful. Alex I woud not think you have this prob. Like MikeP said try & find a spot that they dont just blow things up. I have mine in a position that one faces rear & the other to the front. I would like two more. No doubt they are the best IMO. Will take some work to adjust though. I siliconed my brackets to the glass. I did this while I was setting it up though had no water in tank.
Just Lurking around!!!
I wish I had a tank large enough for a stream. I absolutely love the concept of that pump.
