Default Looking for new tank design advice...

Okay, I'm back from deep lurk mode to get some advice. I'm currently running a 45G breeder tank w/ a 15 gal stearite sump and an Urchin skimmer, DSB, 1-175w 10k bulb, CAP 1800 pump pushing about 400 g/hr circulation w two penguin powerheads (1100 and 900, I think). Anyway, we're planning on building a new house soon, and my wife thought that this would be a good time to upgrade to a larger tank, since we'd be moving the existing one anyway. I'd like to stay at or near a four foot long footprint, so I'm looking at either a 48L x 24W x 24T (120G) or maybe a 48L x 24W x 30T (150G) Now's your chance to shine. Help me design a killer setup for this tank. I plan on using a Calfo-style overflow, and probably a Calfo-style return as well. FYI I'm attaching a diagram showing both. I'll be building the stand and hood myself, and all filtration/water treatment/sump/etc., will have to be in the stand.

    Have fun! :-D  :-D  :-D

You are going to need a big honking pump to overcome the pressure loss from all those 90 degree elbows. I do like the calfo overflows though.

Actually, the elbows are there because it was easier to for me to visualize and diagram that way. I'll probably end up going with either 45's or flexible pvc. Haven't decided yet. Good point, though.

    Thanks for the input.

have you started building the house yet? if not you should consider in the wall tank with a small room in the back.you could go with a larger tank. trust me latter you will want a bigger tank. you could do all that now. just a thought

Sorry, building it in is not an option. This must be a free-standing setup.

I like the dual drain idea, Josh. Thanks. I'd also like to get some input on pump size, recommended skimmer, lighting, etc.
