The best way to tell the difference is by looking at the price tag. Of course, I have gotten "ricordia" that turned out to be Rhodactis when I got it home.

OK, just cause I like to argue, the top one looks like Rhodactis no question. But the bottom one (lavender) is almost surely a Ricordea.

They call it Lavender rock, but they are actually a lavender colored rhodactis. Definately NOT ricordia although the price tag is about the same. They will grow larger than ricordia, faster, and split quicker. They also tend to have odd shapes instead of the small round bubbles ricordia have. The body will grow out of round also, were ricordia will stay symetrical for the most part until they are ready to split.
I have numerous types of mushrooms and this has been my experience with them. These are my favorite right up there with the ricordia. Excellent choice and they will get better with age!

The sweetest thing about these mushrooms was i paid 5 Bucks for the rock. They were so tiny the LPS never sold them for the hairy price they were asking. there were three others that slowly moved to other spots. I really like the transformation they are taking..

A rock of lavenders will sell for $50-$60 at the LFS when they can get them. They are about as common as ricordia.
