Default Worst nightmare!!! Live Rock slide....

Well one of my worst fears about my tank came true tonight. I was in my room on the net and my roomate starting yelling for me to come in to the living room. All I saw was a cloud of sand and one of my piles falling to the bottom. My heart sank after that. I spent the last 2 hours sorting through for survivors/ casualties. Most of my corals got "fragged" involuntarily, but I lost 7 of my SPS frags, including my favorite purple/blue tip acro. The rocks have now been stacked at a much more stable structure now, but it was a painful sight for me. Hope nothing like this doesnt happen to any of yall! :(

sorry about your rock slide. i'm sure that happens to everyone at one time or another. but it will come back now that it is more stable.

Crushed in the earthquake! I think Eric Borneman said it takes 2 complete rockslides to teach the average reefkeeper to secure the rocks well. In a related bit, I have killed several corals by allowing them to fall. I attach them to small rocks, jam the rocks onto the liverock structure someplace, the coral falls, I put it back, it falls again, I put it back again, etc...not very smart.

Glad to hear you didn't crack the glass and spill 200 gallons of water on the floor. THAT's your worst nightmare.

Luckily the tanks glass is 3/4 inch thick, plus the rocks didnt get near it too. More sad at losing my frags actually, but what can ya do, stuff happens.
