    Default Saltwater ponds

Does anyone besides Tim have a saltwater pond set up? I need to check out Tims sometime and wanted to see if anyone else has/had one. As I can't afford a conventional tank as large as I want it, I am playing with the idea of doing a pond in the backyard. This will allow me to do a good size FOWLR tank and maybe some basic corals that can handle the large angels and butterfly fish.

He has a pond tank setup in a greenhouse he built. Not sure what all he has in it, but I'm sure he would be glad to have us come by sometime when he is available (he stays pretty busy with work and family).

I have been looking at using a 750g stock tank they have at Tractor Supply that is 8ft. in diameter and 2ft. tall that is only $230 or finding a pond liner and using it to line walls built out of wood or cynderblocks. Hate to have to dig up the back yard, but I might do it simply to have the ground provide some insulation to the pond. Lots of ideas to play with so I wanted to see what others have done or where I can look to check things out.

Go with the stock tank. I am useing a 350. Is it the big rubbermaid? You will have to change the bulkhead because they are terrible and they leak. I put in one from Ryan Hurco and it work fine. I currently have about a dozen fish, polyps, mushrooms, colts, chili's, and????? who knows what out there. It is run on a dolphin 3000, two surge units, and a 60 gallon refugium. Not to mention Matt's MONSTER skimmer.

Sounds good Tim. The one I saw that was 750gallon was blue and didn't have any bulkheads in it. I have a Sequence 4300 pump that should handle water movement. What kind of surge devices do you have? The only ones I have seen online are the bucket and toilet flapper kind.

I will definately need a Matt's Monster skimmer to run it!

I believe it was called a Carlson surge. It is two separate 15 gallon tanks that get the water pumped in via a mag 12 and then they fill to a U tube and siphon back through a 1.5 inch bulkhead. They have never stopped working since I plugged the pump in. The flapper valve ones I tried would stop on occasion.
