Thread: Identify that little thing?

    Default Identify that little thing?

Sorry no pics... not even sure it would show up if I had one...

Ok, was looking at the glass on my tank with a magnifying glass, watching copepods (little white ones) when I saw a organism that, must be a sea cucmber? not sure... description:

a millimeter or less in length.
White, longer than wide, if the creature was crawling right up the glass, it would look like an upside down U, or, maybe like a cartoon ghost. It did not appear to have any legs, or antenna that I could see, and from what I could tell, it was hunting copepods, one in particular, it just followed it around the glass, but did not seem a very effective hunter.

have any of you observed this before?

so, I can assume this little fella is infact, a beneficial, diverse life form I have no need to worry over... from what I read on the site brett linked to, I may even be able to expect it to be beneficial in controlling red flat worms god forbid I should ever get them... cool. such an exciting hobby. THanks guys!

I have or had some clear whitish ones in my reef. Didn't do anything to control red flat worms. If you have them, then keep an eye on them. They could also be the parasitic ones if they are the color you describe.

well, I am hopeing that since they look like the ones in the pictures, and they were hunting copepods, they won't be a problem.

isn't it amazing how we crave diversity, yet, at the same time, we are all I think, secretly maybe, a little frightened of what we wish for?
