    Default New Halides = Cyno outbreak= How long?

    I was thinking I would be able to not get the cyno outbreak since changing from 600 watts PC to 3x250HQI. Well the cyno is here. How long will this typically last?

    tank params

    ammonia=0
    nitrite=0
    phosphate=barely detectable
    nitrate=15ppm
    ph=8.0-8,2
    Calcium=450
    Ky=10

    There are so many variables; water movement, various nutrient issues, etc. Just keep siphoning it out, try to grow some macroalgae, maybe add some more grazers. Eventually, it will dissipate, but only after you've exported the excess nutrients it needs to accumulate.

    A refugium on a 24 hour cycle works wonders towards absorbing excess nutrients. I run a refugium with a skimmer and ocassional mechanical and charcoal. I've been able to cut my water changes to 15% every two to three months and all of my parameters are within the ideal range.

    I cut my MH down to 6 hours for 4 days and also raised the KH to 16 and it went away in 2 days.
