mysid would do very well in that situation depending on what size seahorses u get. theyre really easy to reproduce as long as u have a ton of caulerpa and good food for them.

    hope it helps, steve

I was told peppermint shrimp produce a lot of eggs into the water column. Not sure if it is true or not.

You should ask this question on the "ultimate seahorse board" on yahoo.. They could probably offer you a lot more choices.

Peppermint shrimp produce from 300 to 1200 (and occassionally more) live fry every couple of weeks once they are mature and at home. Seahorses will eat the live fry, but, they don't carry them far as the fry are so lightweight. They eat many of the refugium macros too, so you have to have rocks in there for them. They will eat soft macros like caulerpa and every other thing that is growing in the refugium as well such as all the squirts and tunicates.

Grass shrimp will produce from 50 to 300 young every few weeks and don't do damage to the macros or mysis, so far as I can see. Possibly eat mysis young, but then many things will do that.

You can always go to Port Aransas and collect gammarus shrimp for the horses. They love those things too.
