I agree you don’t need active desktop. I am guessing that you have either win 98 or 2000. If so that is partly your problem. The other is probably you have or had a virus which corrupted some of your files which makes them unstable. To fix that you will need to run some antivirus or spyware program (ex. Spybot, Stinger, Ad-aware etc.) However to properly diagnose I would need more details. But I hope this helps

Thanks for all the help, I'll run these options by the girlfriend and see if we can get anything figured out, cause she's not too good at these things either, that's why I want to get someone over here who really knows what there doing!! All these anti-virus programs, do I have to buy them, or ae they free downloads of the internet?

Some are free. The best are of course involving $
Like fisher says "cheap good quality" you pay for what you get.
