    Default Kalk Reactor

    I want to put a kalk reactor on my New Tank but am alittle unsure on how to plumb it in...
    I have a line running from my D/I unit to a float valve in my sump
    so the water level stays at a constant level.. "the question"?? Can i put the kalk reactor in line ??? im kinda worried that the kalk will build up on the inside of the valve ... keeping it open and flooding my tank with
    kalkwasser.
    Any suggestions???

    that is something to worry about, talking about flooding your tank with kalk. but as far as suggestions :no. never had i, so i do'nt know anything about them. sorry! just know that i would not want my ph at 20 :o
    350 gal. 7\'x36\'\'x25\'\'tall, , 3-400w.mh-10k, 2-6\' vho actinic, 175gal.sump, 6ft. 100gal zenia fuge,calcium reactor, kalk reactor and a carbon reactor. 7\' turbofloter 5000 skimmer.

    Jim i dont have any more room under the tank for the kalk reactor so i willl have to put it in the back room... if the water level never drops (because i have the float valve from the D/I unit) how will the kalk reactor know whebn to dose ??? i saw the float switch in the e-m you sent me but i still dont understand that if the switch bulb never drops the kalk wont get to the tank... does that make sence???

    This gets a lttle tricky,,,,,, R/O to holding tank metered by the "valve", run an output line from the holding tank to a dosing pump input controlled by a "float switch" in your tank or sump, then take the output side of the doser and go directly into the input of the reactor, take the output of the reactor and go directly into the tank or sump. Basicly youre incorporating a holding tank into the top off system instead of going directly to your sump. This allows you to add kalk in direct proportion to evaporation. Confused yet?
    R/O >>> holding tank >>> doser >>> reactor >>> tank or sump

    maybe you could talk me through it at the meeting.. so what else am i going to need for this setup that i dont already have and when you say holding tank are you talking about the one that came with my RO unit???

    ohh, thats hillarious! ZOOOOMMMM!!!! lmbo.
    When I refer to a holding tank, Im refering to some kind of resivor to store r/o water, like an old salt bucket or the like. What else do ya need? I dunno, whutchya got? Seriously, its not all that complicated once you understand the basic concept. And Ill be more than happy to help you thru the steps involved whenever youre ready. Maybe some other folks using a reactor in a similar fassion could chime in?

    I have one of jimd's reactors hooked up now under my tank let me show you a diagram of mine - sorry only have MS paint here:
    30 Gallon reef, 220 gallon South American Cichlid tank.

    I have a small container (2G) on top of my sump. I mix the kalk in it and then use a float valve in the sump to keep the water level constant and dose the kalk. The evaporation level in my tank is not that much, so I only have to fill it up once a week. its been running for about 6 months now, and do I notice some calcium build up on the floater, but the valve itself has never got stuck. The main reason I decided to use a small container was to avoid over flodding a large amount of kalk into the aquarium. even if the valve stays open, it will not be stuck at the wide open position because it seem to never reach that posittion, it only opend to drip point as the water evaporates. so worst case, it will drip the contents of the container and I will eventually notice that it got empty and the water level in the sump is higher than expexted. In your case you might have to use 2 valves. One for your R/O output to the reactor, and the other is the one in the sump. I'm not sure how the Kalk reactor works exactly, Actually if someone can explain it to me that would be great
