Default Help - F150 Transmission service needed

I have a 97 f150 that needs transmission service in or near San Antonio. Any idea where to take it that can fix it (slipping) and not replace it. I tired of getting riped for whole new things when all it takes is a wrench and a 40 dollar part. A transmission servicing place that can actually service and fix, not pull and replace. Recommendations? Really need to get it done either Monday. Gotta hang somewhere till its done unless I get a rental from near the service place or a ride or something.

If its slipping it may just need servicing, filter and lube changed out, same thing happened to my Chevy. I replaced the filter and lube and it worked perfectly. Just a thought.

Is it an Automatic or Manual?

Automatic. Can I replace the filter? What tools? I usually do my own work, but not on trannys.

Yeah, all ya have to do is remove the tranny pan, theres about 20 or so 1/2" bolts, just remove them carefully as so not to get tranny fluid all over you and your driveway, clean the local area, replace the filter, re-install the pan, re-fill with fluid to factory specs. Pretty simple.

Maybe I'll go for it. Look at it tomorrow. Clean my driveway? Its just blow-sand out here. My oil catch should hold it. Where should I get the filter and fluid from?

    Larry,

The auto parts place (sorry, don't remember the name) on 181 across from where the new HEB is going to be should have the filter. Wal Mart will have the fluid (Dexron III/Mercon ATF). If you head in to SA, Autozone is a good choice (there is one on Goliad and one on W.W. White).

Ed, How does someone from Cedar Park know about the planned HEB on 181 and Parts Plus out here?
