    Default Xenia Attack

Help, my Xenia's have come under attack. At their base where they attached to the rock they are splitting open and a yellow sponge like material is prortuding as the Xenia starts to wither. Checking all water peramiters, everything is well within the acceptable limits. Has anyone experianced this before? any suggestions on saving them before they all fall prey to whatever this is.

Is it on all the xenia? Might just be some sponge taking over the rock its on. My GSP's are killing off some xenia that is on the same rock that they are growing over...cs

How long have you had them? Its normal for xenia colonies to crash once anually. If you are not cutting them and you exceed their max daylight hours and temp for a few days, especially since the weather changed, it may be your time has come. One of mine did this recently, though I really expected it in August.

    Barry,

Are these the Xenia I gave you a couple of weeks ago?

Actually what I was looking for was something to control xenia.

I think xenia grow faster in high ph conditions. When I started using the calcium reactor, they slowed down in their incessent spread across my tank.

    Jim,

The best thing to control Xenia is a pair of stainless steel scissors and surgical forceps. Just consider it as good nutrient export, like harvesting caulerpa.
