Default Friends of Comal Co. Sheriffs?

I got a stupid speeding ticket coming home from Killeen on 281 near Bulverde the other night. Comal Co. Sheriff Deputy says I was doing 80 in a 65 and I know I wasn't going that fast (I was driving my company van and there were deer everywhere), but what can I do?

Anyways, anyone have a friend in the department that could help out? They want $100 just to be allowed to take a defensive driving course!!!!!

I hate defensive driving, taken it so many times I know the info better than the instructors! :-P

Yeah, attorneys cost too much unless it is something serious that will jack up my insurance rates. Haven't tried the DD video, but I know the online course was worse than taking it in person!

Yes, it sucks, it's your word versus the word of a police officer. Highly unlikely to get things done in your favor.

The online course at defensivedriving.com isn't too bad. I've had to take it a couple of times. I have a lead foot sometimes.

Another thing to ponder. In the state of texas, insurers have the option of not charging for the first ticket, but if you get a second within 3yrs you get charged for both. so ask your insurer a what if question, they always love those.

I already got screwed over by something like that a few years ago. I had two tickets in just under a year, one in Dallas and one in Seguin by DPS. I took defensive driving for both hoping that as they were in different cities that they wouldn't figure it out as you can only take it once a year. Everything was fine until I got my insurance renewel and it showed both of the tickets on my record!

LOL, the less the insurance company has to think about the better! I just got my rates to finally drop from a DWI I got back in 97. Blood suckers! :x

Deferred Adjudication like Josh says will cost you $200 but it will not go on your record if you don't get a ticket during your probation period which is set by the judge. Normally 3 months but I've been sentenced 4 months in the past for street racing. Currently I'm on a 3 month probation for street racing (yet again) and speeding (81 in a 40) in ELP which shouldn't appear on my record if I don't get another ticket within the next few weeks.

My racing days were over when I sold the Camaro and 6 months later I get in one little race and I get busted. I'm really calling it quits now.

In my case I didn't have the option to do DD but you do. DD is cheaper then probation.

Maybe that depends on where you get the ticket. I got one a little over a year ago in Leon Valley and it would have been about $20 cheaper to take the probation. I opted for the DD since I wanted to get the insurance break anyways. Also opted to get a better Radar Detector, new one has worked great. The only thing to remember with them is if your alone on the road no detector will help you out.

I love people with radar detectors.....I always write them a ticket...lol. Little bit of advice from someone who really likes to run traffic...THEY DON'T WORK! An officer will be able to tell within 5 mph of what your actual speed is before they even hit the radar. The radar only comes on for a split second as it locks your speed in, and then guess what....Game on. Now all the people behind you just got a blip from the radar locking you in, but guess who's getting the ticket. The only radar I have seen that works is the kind that actually jams radar, but that is really expensive. To be fair I don't write for anything unless it is 10 over...those stick in court no problem.

Radars are very good and I still use them but you can't really rely on them as much now a days. Police officers are doing "Instant On" very often which means your radar detector will no nothing then suddenly boom it beeps to let you know it's time to pull over.

I'm over in Lockhart PD....I was actually thinking about going and applying down in San Antonio, but **** them boys have had some serious problems lately. I don't mind the small town stuff....you really get to know the people you deal with, and you can actually see the impact you make.
