Thread: DSB/surge...first thoughts.

    Default DSB/surge...first thoughts.

I am planning a DSB that will sit above my tank. I am toying with the idea of building two 1-2 gallon surge devices. I want to use a similar design to what is on this list...

The current idea is to flow from the DSB into the surge devices. Then let the surges flow back into the tank. The two surge devices would fill at different rates and create an irregular flow.

I am thinking of building a simple acrylic box split in two to save space and add to the simplicity. At this small size (3-4g) I think Home Depot acrylic will do the trick (Bill?).

    More later,
    Dave

I've tried this design and had too many problems for my liking. I use a carlson design now and it works perfect.

    Dave -
I have seen the toilet flapper device on another site awhile back. They just used a 5gallon bucket that you can get at Home Depot or Lowe's. You could probably use a smaller bucket just the same. I have always wanted to try one out, but have never gotten around to it.

Tim has a couple of surge devices at his place and he seems very happy with them. I haven't seen them, but maybe he will see this thread and talk about them. Maybe get him to post a pic or two of one as well.

Adding pics of my refugium in process. Water will flow from here into the surge. I don't have plans set for the surge device. All input is welcome.

Thanks Bill for cutting the acrylic.

This is the type I use now. It has been running flawlessly for at least a year.
