    Default Flame Angel

Well the list for tank raised fish seems to be growing. it now includes flame angels. a research group i think out of hawaii has finally achieved this feat, getting the fish past their laraval stage. TFH magazine had some articles a few months back, but now it's official they're starting to pop up on the market. although the price is somewhere between $70-$80.00, this still isn't too bad coinsidering wild caught ones sometimes don't fare to well and often die upon arrival. price will probably drop a little when other companies such as ora or c-quest get into the picture. i might decide to get one, kind of curious to see coloration and size.

    Interesting!

Any links to more information Ray? Most people i've known fail to have long term success with flame angels so being able to find tank raised should increase their survival rates.

I would most certainly pay the extra $ for that!

I think Flame Angels are some of the most beautiful fish out there. It has always been one of my favorites, but after trying and losing two of them I decided I would have to try another time down the road. From what I had heard, collectors were having a very poor survival rate at that time. Hopefully these tank raised fish will do well and help keep the population of wild fish up where it belongs.

here's the info. if anyone wants to read or see pics. the coloration seems to be pretty good. i wouldn't hesitate to much about paying the extra money for T.R. since they're more likely to survive and be much hardier. pretty sure other angels are soon to follow. the more expensive japanese pygmy angel is also one that has been recently tank raised also, but will command a hefty price of around $700.00ea. wild caught ones are usually somewhere around $400.00. species name C. Interruptus spelling might be off on that.

I really like the idea of a low or no impact reef tank. Is anyone selling tank raised Mandarin Gobys?

i don't believe mandarins have begun to be tank raised. i've read articles on people having reports of spawning, but as for all marine fish getting past the larval stage is the most challenging part. you must find a type of food they can ingest and nutritious for them at the same time. types of rotifers are the key and culturing them, but they're are many different types. who knows in about 10yrs. maybe about 40% of the species available can be offered tank raised vs. the 5% offered today for sale.
i think mandarins will come soon than later as you can tell male from females and be able to form a pair.
