As I'm sure most of you already know (only thing on the news!), but several states in the northeast and parts of Canada suffered a major power outage yesterday that lasted into the night. Amazing to see all those people in New York having to walk home! This morning the effect on the hobby hit me.
Think about all the pet stores and fish tanks people have up there! With no power for that long, some will not get power up for a day or two, there have been and will be some major losses of aquatic life. I know there are many more important issues that those people are dealing with such as not being able to work, cook food, keep food refridgerated, and travel to an extent, but it is something to think about.
CPS was all over the local news saying nothing like that will ever happen here, but what if it does? Are we prepared to take care of ourselves, our families, and the other creatures that are dependent on us? It's a good time for us to thing about things and prepare for those kind of emergencies. Everyones attention to such things was aroused after 9/11, but as we can now see, it doesn't take an act of terrorism to completely disrupt life as we know it!

PS - Something I saw on the national news last night that cracked me up was that due to the power outage Amtrack was not able to run any of their trains which are important for people to get around in some of those states. In the midst of not having electricity, their message to the public was for people to go online and check for updated info and schedules! DOHHHHHHHHH!!!!! The person that came up with that great idea must have been related to the person at the power plant that said "What does this big red switch do?" :lol3: :wtf:
