Default Hole Size On Durso Valve

After several dumb mistakes tonight; I finally got around to plumb up my tank (brand new bulkhead's been sitting dry since March.)

If my durso pipe is making a toilet flushing noise every once in a while, and the pump is pumping water up faster then the drain can feed it. What does this mean? Should I make the hole on the durso's cap, bigger or smaller. My cap have the smallest hole allowable w/ a drill bit right now. I haven't drilled a bigger hole in the cap yet becuase the battery on my drill decided to die at just the right time.

Is the whole in the top of it. I saw one version that had a cap on top with a 1/4 hole through the side of the cap and tube, and you could turn the cap to adjust the hole size...cs

Thanks, widening the hole has worked at balancing out the drain & return almost perfect. It's still pumping a tiny bit faster, so I'll go in there and widen it up a little more.

Inside the overflow, how high can I get the water to be from the overflow grill? My water is about 4 inches lower then the grill right now, and there's still a water fall noise. Is it ok if my water level is only two inches below the grill?

Vinh... mine is only about 2 & 1/2" to 3" from the overflow and it's pretty quiet. I also covered the top of that area with some lexan though so that helped too.

I've seen some people bring the Durso's up to only about an inch drop.

I would assume a larger fall would help with gas exchange slightly more though.

Thanks! The reason my pipe was low in the 1st place is b/c I was trying to get all the piping to fits under a glass top to cut down the noise. I guess I'm going let the piping rise out higher, and use acrylic top instead, w/ a hole drilled for the pipe to pop through the acrylic cover.
