    Default too many bubbles

40 reef 51lbs LR 20lbs LS bakpak skimmer

    what to do. . .
just picked up a bak pac skimmer (the one w/ shreddings for bio-filtration)
and took the shreddings out b/c i'm doing a reef; turned the skimmer on and a lots of bubbles were escaping into the tank through outlet pipe. should i put the shreddings back in, or will this compromise my LR system.
otherwise, i need to get a cpr bubble trap (more dough). if so, anyone have one?

    your help appreciated,
    andrew

Are the bubbles coming from venturi, making it through the skimmer, or are they coming from the water falling back into the tank in the output? I get bubbles from mine, but its from the water falling in the output tube...cs
    50gal cube in the works.

Andrew, a Bak Pak will do this for the first 20 hours or so of operation. Mine did the exact same thing and now its absolutely perfect. if you go to the CPR home page they have a list of FAQ's. it shows that the bubbles are a result of new operation and they will also do the same thing with large doses of chemicals and when you move the stuff in the tank a bunch. You will love this skimmer!

THey also sell the 2R model. If your Bak Pak come w/ the biobale, it's not the 2R model. They also sell accessories like the overflow box, bubble box.
Look at all those live rocks on the beach at Florida's state park!

    Default solved

I looked into getting a 2R, but this one was cheaper (saved me about 20 bucks), and is working fine now after 24 hours (minimal bubbles escaping - due to turbulence through outlet, like DustinWayman said. Haven't put the shreddings back in either.

    thanks all for the advice,
    A.K.

I have that same skimmer, i noticed that with the bio bale bubbles are reduced by about 19%, also if you cut a small chunk of plexi glass and have it sloping towards the outlet tube the bubbles stop
