    Default What to feed corals?

Hey everyone, I am posting this message to try to get some advice on how and what to feed my corals. Currently, I just have some polyps and a torch. I have been told that polyps absolutely love to be fed. What do you all reccomend?

    Thanks so much!

    hey dustin,

what sort of lighting do you have and how big of a tank? it depends a lot on lighting what type and how many corals you can keep because most corals receive the majority of their foor from photosynthesis(an algae called Zooxanthelea lives in most types of coral having a symbiotic relationship with the coral:the coral gives the algae shelter and the algae use photosynthesis to transform the oxygen and nitrogens in the water into simple sugars for the coral to feed on) most corals will benefit from the addition of phytoplankton(microscopic organisms, usually crustacean larvae) some types, like your torch especially, have little mouths that take in larger foods such as mysis shrimp or blood worms.

what i usually do is once every other week take a shot glass, fill it half way with dts(a brand of phytoplankton you can buy at most lfs) and half with pure bottled water, i then drop a frozen cube of either blood worms or mysis shrimp(also found at your lfs) and wait for it to mix. since i have only a 10 gal i usually put about 1/2 to 1 teaspoon of the mixture into my water at least twice a week. not only will your corals love you but all the neat little critters you have running around your tank will come out to feed!

    hope this info helps! steve

Polyps collect larger meaty foods. Frozen brine is great to get them to flourish! Use something to spray the brine straight onto the polyps and they will take it just like an anemone.
