does anyone know of a business or professional that can drill holes in a glass aquarium here in the austin area?

You might want to try looking in the yellow pages for glass shops. I was going to get mine drilled at Thad Ziegler Glass, but they didn't have a bit large enough(4"). The price for them was only $15 per hole, not bad. The use the same equipment that any aquarium shop will use. Another reminder, no one will guarantee their work. good luck.

As you are in Austin, just call around to the local glass stores or fish stores. Probably cost you between $15 to $30 per hole. As Henry mentioned, you will have a very hard time finding anyone that will guarantee the work. Also, you need to make 100% sure your tank is safe to drill. Just because it doesn't say tempered glass doesn't mean that it isn't. Most tanks have tempered bottoms and some can have tempered sides. Dean (newtosa) had to call around and finally talked to the manufacturer about his 150 that he got at PetsMart and he was told not to drill the sides even though only the bottom was marked as tempered. Better to find out ahead of time instead of watching your tank shatter into a million pieces. If you can't find anyone to drill it for you, maybe a MAAST member in Austin has some diamond/carbide hole saws you could use.
