Sharks anyone?

I was in Houston today and had time to stop by two LFS there. I went by T&T Fish & Reptile on Hwy 6 and Fishland on Westhiemer. T&T had a few sharks in a tank there. Two were nurse sharks and the others weren't labeled, but similar to bamboo sharks. I think it would be neat to have a big FOWLR tank that had one or two small sharks in it. I was curious if anyone around here had any experience with sharks?

Yeah, I have seen them there, crammed in the small tanks in the back. I don't understand why they don't put them in one of the larger tanks so they can swim around.

Hey Chris, I was at T&T today too (around 3 P.M.) You should give me a call if you want to visit different stores in Houston. I live about 5 to 10 minutes from T&T. I was at Fish Land last weekend.

Okay, I'm confused... When I drive from San Marcus to Houston it usually takes me about 2.5 hours or so, and I drive fast! :-o

I think Vinh is still in Houston visiting family. :-D

Vihn - wow, small world! Yeah, I had to drive to Houston to pick up my company van. When I was there two weeks ago I had to put it in the shop there for repairs. T&T, Fishland, and that Aquarium World are the only stores I have visited there. Usually I don't get much free time when working out of town, but the past few trips have been light work load. Actually, my boss there wants me to move there from San Antonio!

Would be good to visit some stores with someone like yourself that knows about corals as I have limited knowledge.

You're shopping with the wrong guy if you're looking for a guide. I do impulse buy, buying 5 to 20 corals in one day. Did you notice how much the Damsel cost at T&T? They only cost $1.99 each. The price has been like that for 18 months now. I don't use any radar detector. Just following the speed of the traffic. I do follow the speed limit when driving through small town like Martindale, Luling, etc. They'll come out and ticket you even when it's raining hard.

Fishworld is close to Highway 6 Westheimer. It's close to Westheimer and Synott.

Fishland is close to the corner of Highway 6(Clodine something road) and Bellaire. If you go down Bellaire, there will be a Fish World to your right in the My Hoa Center(which is on Bellaire/Synott(see the above in reference to Fish Land.) Traveling further down Bellaire, go past the Sam Houston Toll Road, further down there should be a Global Fish N Pet on the left side( if you see a Fiesta on the left, it's on the same shopping Strip.) Going further down Bellaire, go past the Sharptown Mall, go under the 59 overpass, don't turn left into the feeder road, turn left into Larkwood??? something Street, a little down to the left should be Fish Ranch. Going past Fish Ranch, you'll should be right back on the 59 Feeder road.

After you visit Fish World in the My Hoa shopping center, go down Bellaire toward Sam Houston Toll Road. Turn right into the feeder road. Turn left into the next underpass. Straight to your right would be City Pets. Get back on Sam Houston toll road, going toward I-10. Aquatic Design should be on the otherside, somewhere close to I-10. After you're done, head back toward I-10 and it will take you back to San Antonio.

There are other bigger, smaller fish stores in Houston, but my direction above let you stay in one side of town. For some reason, all most all of these stores are owned by Vietnamese. And some of these store owners are related to each other.

Cap, the whole idea of sharks in the aquarium is a bit controversial. Sharks provide great benefit to the environments they live in believe it or not as predators and scavengers. Your average nurse shark (if it's Ginglymostoma cirratum which I believe is common to our water's) will grow to 14 feet in the wild!. Maybe some of these refinery barons in Houston have small oceans in their basement who knows but generally people who buy sharks have no clue as to their needs and try to pawn them off to fish stores or aquariums when they get too big.

The bamboo cat shark and I thknk the epaulette shark are semi suitable species since they are not big swimmers but still a very long tank , 150+ gallons is the minimum reccomended for these. IMO these should be left in the wild but I agree they are neat if you have a HUGE tank and are willing to take really good care of it.
