Poly filter

Anyone run poly filter through their reef?
Do you do it once a week, or 24/7?
It's a very expensive product. How long does it last b4 it need replacement? I'm thinking about putting it in my caulerpa sump and skip out the skimmer. According to Ron Shimek, the skimmer is not very capable of removing significant amount of heavy metal. Unless you can harvest large amount per day, caulerpa is not capable of taking out much heavy metal. So, that leave the poly filter to absorb out the heavy metal.

Why do you fear heavy metals?....I havent used poly filters in years

With the way you go through new tanks Vinh... you won't have your setup long enough to worry about any heavy metals accumulating :P

Yeah, at 4 months, that's about my longest running reef tank ever. I'm so proud of myself. :roll: I'm trying to setup a separate low flow soft corals, and seperate high flow barebottom SPS tank. I'm getting a custom sump build. It have a compartment that require a material to absorb the noise, micro bubbles, and such. So, Poly filter is disposable, vs. using sponge or filter bag and have to be clean that off every week. Plus, I put my hand in my tank alot, so I'm looking for something to absorb the soap, perfume, air conditioner spray.

At the cost of $40 to $50, I have never used Poly filter, and most of my tank have fared well. What I can't justify is the cost of replacing the Poly filter weekly, so I'm wondering how long peoples run it for b4 throwing it away. This tank will probably be taken down w/in a year, so I guess heavy metal accumulation wouldn't be a problem for me.

You run the poly until it changes color then you can rinse it out and use it again. It is supposed to last a long time.

The bottle say "Eau de Toilette." I've been to France, but I don't know much French. It's too expensive to be used on the toilet, so I figure it must be for use on the human body. :-D
