Yeah, at 4 months, that's about my longest running reef tank ever. I'm so proud of myself. I'm trying to setup a separate low flow soft corals, and seperate high flow barebottom SPS tank. I'm getting a custom sump build. It have a compartment that require a material to absorb the noise, micro bubbles, and such. So, Poly filter is disposable, vs. using sponge or filter bag and have to be clean that off every week. Plus, I put my hand in my tank alot, so I'm looking for something to absorb the soap, perfume, air conditioner spray.
At the cost of $40 to $50, I have never used Poly filter, and most of my tank have fared well. What I can't justify is the cost of replacing the Poly filter weekly, so I'm wondering how long peoples run it for b4 throwing it away. This tank will probably be taken down w/in a year, so I guess heavy metal accumulation wouldn't be a problem for me.
Look at all those live rocks on the beach at Florida's state park!
