I was in Houston all this week for work and stayed in a different part of town everynight. On Thursday I passed by a huge store named Aquarium World so of course I had to do a u-turn and check it out.
The store is huge! It's about the size of a small Petco but it only has fish - marine, freshwater, and ponds. They have a huge display tank that has to be 20ft long by 10ft hight and 10ft deep. It has two huge green moray eels and lots of other fish as well. It was awesome to see the 5ft long eel swim gracefully across the tank with many fish following like he was their leader. There was a big grouper sitting on the bottom while a cleaner wrasse cleaned his mouth and gills. Other than the fish it just had a lot of fake corals although a sign said they were working to update the tank to a more natural look. The store also has a couple of ponds set up, one with koi and other pond fish and another filled with base rock and some saltwater fish including some sharks. It was kind of neat although some of the fish weren't in that great of shape. Across the back of the store they have their livestock tanks in small rooms. I got to see many fish I have never seen before and lots of corals.
If any of you are in the Houston area, you should check it out. It's on Hwy 290 a few miles west of Loop 610. The only problem with the store was that with all that overhead, their prices are very high. But it is worth visiting just to see the display tanks and if you are looking for something different that can't be found around here. On a previous trip to Houston I visted some stores on Hwy 6 and Westhiemer area. Some nice stores there as well.
