Wanted: Phone/Network Wiring Expertise
I'm trying to clean up the really messy (at least in my eyes) wiring closet in my home and am having a lot of trouble figuring out what's what. It seems the house was wired for 3 phone lines and ethernet, along with the usual coax video wire. I have done some upgrades kinda parallel to this on the network side with gigabit ethernet and cat6 but the older network wiring is kinda basic with some of the patch wires using an "economy" configuration with just four wires.
I was very eager and bought a structured wiring cabinet that I plan on installing in the place of the current mess of jumper blocks with cut wires everywhere. I picked up some "Open House" brand telephone distribution blocks along with a basic video splitter (not sure I can use this though with ATT Uverse). I have a basic 4 port gigabit switch but will probably get a larger one for use in the cabinet. 8 ports will probably be enough, but I need to try to figure out how many actual ethernet wires are in the cabinet.
Anyway, I realize this is a labor only request, but if there is anyone in the community that has the time and expertise, I would like to hire you to figure things out and terminate wires to install the hardware that I have appropriately and neatly. I know Erik has some networking experience, but honestly I don't know what kind of expert I need.
Otherwise, if there are any recommendations, I would love to hear them ...
