The Eheim 2229 Wet/Dry filtration system provides biological filtration within a canister set-up for both freshwater and saltwater aquariums. The water movement within the filter is bi-directional allowing for extended contact time between bacteria colonies, oxygen and toxins to be decomposed. This bi-directional water movement results in rapid breakdown and filtration. The Eheim 2229 provides biological filtration with simple installation with no need for drilling in the aquarium or complicated plumbing. The unit is sealed so there is no risk of water overflow. The exchange of gases (Oxygen and CO2) is accomplished by means of displacement through the specially-designed breathing tube. The water output pulsates as the filter fills and empties. In this way it also acts as a wave maker, creating rhythmic currents inside the aquarium. The Eheim 2229 filers aquariums up to 158 gallons and has a flow rate of 227gph and a filter circulation of 145gph.

The Eheim 2229 EZ Clip System is made of four sturdy clips which work with the built-in gasket and recessed lid handles making the pump head of the filter simple to remove.

Eheim's filter media containers have retractable handles that greatly simplify setup and cleaning of the filter media. The media containers use all the available space in the canister and can be removed separately.

Fitting directly into the pump head, the Double Tap Connector combines the shut-off valves, the hose connections and the locking clamp into one single unit.
