BioCube fuge light
Here is a write up of how I did both my BC fuge lights. Feel free to ask questions or comment. Please no comments on the shotty work, I was in a hurry!
List of what's needed.
Fan 40x10mm $5.99 Altex

Industrial Velcro $2.98 HD
Xenon puck light $9.96 HD
Super glue gel $2.98 HD
Items already on hand.
5/32" drill bit
1 1/2" hole saw

Blade CX2 battery charger power supply. Needs to be 12v and proper amperage for the fan.

First remove the puck light ring and install it in the box.

I chose to remove these tabs for appearance.

Cut the four outer screw holes flush with the inner four. This is where the aluminum plate needs to sit flush with the sides of the box.

Cut two pieces of aluminum 4 1/4" long and check for fit in the box.

The box has seams from casting on the top I marked in the pic so you can see them. Find where they intersect and mark 1/8" towards the open side of the box. Mark the aluminum plates for the holes 3 1/4" apart and 7/16" from the edge. The 7/16" is measured from the side towards the box and not length wise. Use a 1 1/2" hole saw for the fan on the top and a 5/32" drill bit to make the holes in the plate.

Countersink the holes making sure that the screws will sit flush. Clean everything up and prep for paint. This is where the sanding drum on the Dremel and rubbing alcohol comes in. The screws holding the puck light ring should protrude through the back, cut or sand down flush. Didn't feel I needed a pic of the painting process.

Take the puck light plug apart following the directions. Note the polarity of the plug by looking at the holes made in the wire. Route the wire through the puck ring and hole in the box and secure. Then slide the fan between the screw holes as seen in the pic. Almost like it was made for it! Line up fan with the hole in the top and secure with glue.

Install the aluminum plates, clean with alcohol and apply the hook side of the Velcro to the aluminum. May need to cut Velcro in half. I install the loop side with plastic still on as seen in pic in preparation for mounting to the tank.

Using a razor blade, clean the paint off the tank where you want to put the light.

Using firm pressure install the light. Remove light to make sure the loop side is secure on the tank. I installed weather stripping around the box to help with light escaping because I run mine opposite of the day time lights.

I've been running my light on the 14g for a few weeks now and the macro algae loves it, doubled in size easy, and my nitrates and phosphorous are down to almost nothing. It also keeps the temp on the tank constant for now, summer will be interesting to see. The fans are noisy so if you're a light sleeper, may need to baffle them some how. The noise doesn't really bother me, kinda like white noise.
