lots of inaccuracies in the story though. the dude fell way more than 20 feet

driver of the car got cuffed and stuffed right in front of me (i was standing against the guard rail watching him get impaired driver tested) phone is going crazy with people texting me saying they saw me on the news

i tried like hell to catch the 2nd car that left but i just couldnt catch up to them

i really cant believe noone died in the accident though

cliffs: 2 cars racing, one swerved to miss a truck pulling a u-haul. hit a car stalled on the side of the road square in the rear. i was doing 70 and the cars blew by me (guessing they were going 85ish - probly impacted at about 60 mphish)

Police said street racers caused a Northwest Side accident about 8 p.m. that sent two adults and a young boy to University Hospital with serious injuries Sunday night.

The family was stalled on the outside shoulder of Loop 410 eastbound at Babcock Road when a red Volkswagen Jetta that had been racing another car slammed into the rear end of the stalled vehicle.

“The driver of the red car was trying to pass around traffic by going into the shoulder when it struck the car,” said Sgt. Ernest Celaya of the San Antonio Police Department.

The owner of the stalled vehicle was standing outside the car looking under the hood at the time.
The sudden, violent impact sent him flying about 20 feet down an embankment of the Loop 410 feeder road.

The injured man’s 5-year-old son was trapped inside the vehicle, while a woman was trapped in the passenger seat. The rear end of their vehicle was crumpled deep toward the middle of the vehicle by the time rescures arrived to cut the woman and boy out with rescue tools.

“They all had serious injuries, but we don’t think anything is life-threatening at this point,” Celaya said.

Family members of the victims said the injured man pulled his vehicle over because it had stalled. Betty Gonzales, the man’s mother, said her son had called her to pick them up.

“I was just on the phone with him,” she said. “I just hope they are OK.”

The driver of the Jetta, who walked out of his car without any injuries, was arrested at the scene, police said. He is facing charges of racing on the highway and causing injuries. The other car that was racing did not stop, police said.

An SUV hauling a trailer was also struck by the Jetta. The driver of that vehicle was not injured, police said.

Mona Acosta said she was traveling along Loop 410 with her husband and children when she and her husband noticed the Jetta racing a dark vehicle.

“The red car was racing in and out of lanes,” she said.

Her husband stopped after they witnessed the accident.

“The man who was thrown over the bridge was talking,” she said. “We could hear the little boy ask for help, but we couldn’t hear the woman.”
