    Here's my version of a no-holes closed loop on a 240 gal. The vertical gray 1 1/2 inch dia pipe to the left is the intake. There are two of them. The other is on the other side of the overflow. The slots are cut so that they have surface area totaling twice the cross section area of the 1 1/2 inch pipe. They feed a Dart through a 2 inch pipe. The dart feeds the four way on top. each port on the four way feeds two 1 inch dia. returns (8 returns). The small tube at the top of the intakes, with the valve in it, is so I can suck out the air and start a syphon.

    I originally had four holes in the side of the tank for intakes, but the side cracked. I had to replace the side.
