I wonder if you guys could give me some tips on moving my 75 gallon inhabitants over to a 90 gallon. I am planning on setting up a 90 gallon in the bedroom and I have some questions. First of all is it better to move as much of the orginial water as possible or could I just mix up a fresh batch in the new tank. The water in the 75g is 0 ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate. The only problem with the water right now is a calcium level of about 380 which i've been slowing moving up with b-ionic. I also used tap water to fill the 75g with, since then I use r/o to top off and do water changes. I would of course now use r/o to mix the new tank with. I have a few zoo's, mushrooms, clams and lps corals. Would this cause a shock to the fish or corals?
Also, the first time I set up the 75 I didn't rinse the gravel and I wish I had because it kicks up a lot of debris when its disturbed. Would it be ok if I use new gravel in the 90g. The original gravel bed is argonite and about 1". I use a refugium with dsb and cheato to keep the nitrate at 0 and I am just going to move the whole thing to the new tank with out disturbing it.
I want to keep the sound to a minimum since the tank will be in the bedroom. Right now my protein skimmer is on 24hrs, could I put it on a timer and keep it on during the day and off at night? I would also like to do the same thing with my refugium light. Right now I run it at night when the tank lights are off.
