I was a little skeptical of reviving a 1 season show from 1978 that was great as a kid, of questionable quality when viewing as an adult. But watching the miniseries last year I was impressed, dark, gritty, very adult, shot with a documentary style perspective, and most impressively, it's sci-fi only in it's setting, it's a hard core drama w/ excellent writing and some good actors (edward james olmos(Stand and Deliver), Mary Mcdonnel (Dances w/ Wolves)

The first two episodes aired last friday, and were awesome. The first one "33" dealt with relentless Cylon persuit, every 33 minutes the Galactica has to jump, launch fighters, defend against a cylong attack, recover fighters, and jump again, and they have done it 250 + times, 5 days straight. Very stressful, relentles, I felt tense watching it.

The second Episode, Water, deals w/ the infiltration of a cylon spy that looks human in the Galactica, the spy sets of charges in Galactica's water storage/recyling tanks, causing them to lose vast amounts of water. Nothing is really resolved and the story line arc is not progressed per say, because we know who the spy is, and what happened, it's just the fleshing out of a charchter.

overall, there are glaring differences in the show from the original female starbuck and boomer, few other things, but the 1970's hoke is gone, in it's place is serious drama, incredible special effects, and a show that I think just raised the bar for Science Fiction, and I don't mean a few inches, I am talking REALLY raised the bar.
