After only a few hours in the new tank my watchman goby, who I've had almost a year, ended up in one of my overflows and died.

Is this common and is there anything I can do to prevent this from happening again?

I'm glad the Durso's weren't installed yet, he might have stopped up the drain. I've seen the eggcrate in the end of the elbow to keep out debris, how many actually do this?
