Water Pump
I just purchased a refugium for my Red Sea Max 34 gallon. I got the Aqueon Model 1. Its about 11 gallons. Not the best refugium out their, however it will fit my cabinet and it was a pretty cool gift and will get the job done. This will be my first refugium/sump/etc...I've run my Red Sea Max for over 5 years without one and ready to lose the canister filter.
Im waiting on a custom overflow box from Lifereef to be made. It's made specifically for my tank and is pretty much hidden. That way I can keep my lights and skimmer where they are. My skimmer works great, so I will not be adding one in the refugium.
As far as a water pump does anybody have any suggestions. I do have a few backup pumps laying around. A Marineland Maxi-Jet 900 (230gph) and an Innovative Marine pump (211gph). Not sure if these basic pumps will get the job done, or if I need to get something else. I ran across this from Marine Depot: http://www.marinedepot.com/Reef_Octo...WPEPOH-vi.html
My biggest question is what should the gph be to have proper flow leaving and entering the tank. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I would think your overflow box would give a GPH limit? As far as having a bunch of water going through our sump, it is not as big of deal anymore like in the past. If we need more movement we can add a power head.

I checked the lifereef website. He sells the mag7 as part of a package deal with his sump and overflow box. So any recomendations on a pump thats reliable? Im guessing mag7 means 700gph?

I would think so. At 4' it is less than 500 gph. A good work horse pump but in time can draw 120 watts. I have an older one and that is what it draws. What I have learned is submersible pumps advertise above the GPH they actually pump. Where as external seem to be very close to there advertised GPH. I used a cheap Rio 2500 on my 65. They had some issues years ago but I guessed they have since fixed them?
