    Default Overflow & return gph

I have an eshopps overflow box rated at 200gph. My sump is roughly 3ft below the tank. Calculating the head loss...how many gph should the return be?

not sure where you're headed with this question, but....less than 200 gph
Most of the pump manufactures have a graph or table on the box (or their website) listing the return flow at a given height, so you can just look at a few and pick one that stays where you want it. That being said, I tend to err on the side of cautious...and make up the difference with powerhead flow. Hope that makes sense...lol

Makes sense. I think I've found one that will work. Hopefully I'll be picking it up today. Thanks

What did you end up deciding on?

From what I can tell a mag 2 would work. I think a rio1100 would be pushing it too close

That sounds about right. I wouldn't go any higher than that, just in case you had even a small impingement on the overflow's flow.

I'd go with PHs for in-tank flow and just use the return for what it was intended, to return water from the sump.
