And yes, it does depend on your filter. The one I have has three trays for media and a couple of sponges. You'd need to keep the sponges really clean or just get rid of the all together. With that said, mine sits in the garage and is not used.

so its basically a aquaclear model 70 filter(not very big hob filter), if you just google aquaclear fuge mod you should find more info on it. what i have always done is used it to house a bag of chemipure elite and some cheato(lil light for algae). your welcome to swing by and look at it. there is a company thats makes drop in baskets also

I agree. I wouldn't use it unless you need it. Yes, you have to keep it clean but if you end up needing to use GFO or carbon, it might come in handy. Just relying on a skimmer, live rock and water changes isn't always enough. I certainly wouldn't recommend loading it up with carbon or GFO until you actually need it though.

oh most definitely. i never would advise to get rid of something that could be used for dif./later use lol... i mean c'mon, im polish. i would turn a culligan water tank into a skimmer... oh wait lol.
