A good read on Miracle Mud

Still been researching this topic for some time and came across this article on a visit to the creator(founder) of Miracle Mud and his tanks at his place. Lot of impressive tanks. Might have to take the dive on the next tank.

I know a couple people do. Epicwin on here has an amzing tank and runs it. He has a good point. He said to have Macro that roots into the mud so it helps remove dead space in the mud itself and causes stability in the mud. I couple other people chimmed in last time. So i might be taking the dive on the next build. I think the 190 sump can hold a good amount of mud ha ha.

but it did stand out to you also..... lol, his notes about dosing with sps only and to change out mud where helpful, this may be a cool experiment since emily wants her tank simple. her tank is kickin now with no skimmer may stay that way

At a cost of $8/lb, I can't see going this route on my tank. At a running capacity of 250g, it would require approx 50lbs of mud. That's $400. Nah...

I read somewhere that the mud works well because of the very fine grain size hosting a considerable amount of nitrifying bacteria. It also creates an anoxic zone in a shallower depth because of its compactness. I new. To dig up that article again and post it. This is a vegetable filter. Plain and simple.

I run two 250 MH's on my corner and T5's on the breeder. I have been hesitant to make the move to Led myself ha ha.

It depends on your Bio-load in the tank. If i remember correctly he only has 60lbs on a 400 gallon system which was moderatly stocked. Plus if it replaces a lot od dosing and a skimmer... thats a lot of savings at start up and down the road. Certainly a worth while experiment. I will still run the skimmer I got for my next build just as a "better safe than sorry" plan.

I used MM on both my 55, and then my 215. Just 1 jug on the 55, and added a second when I upgraded. Seemed to work great.

One thing that i have read as a common theme with everyone that uses it is a boom in macro, pods and natural food staples like phyto and such which most likely effects the health of both fish and corals.
