Default Eel making my tank cloudy

I just got an eel and my tank just has fine sand in it and he is digging a lot of holes and making my tank look cloudy all the time. Will it hurt him if I put some aggregate on top of the sand? And will this help with the cloudy ness of the water? If not any suggestions?
    Thanks so much

I also needed to add I got the tank and sand used and did not know I should have rinsed the sand off after the move. They had put the sand in a big trash can and we moved sand with water to my house and they just put the sand and water back in the tank. I have done a 35% water change and the levels are still high. I am going to do a 50% today and was thinking I should either rinse the sand or replace it all together. What should I do?
    Thanks so much

iv seen ppl put pvc under the sand with 90z on the ends so they can go in..maybe that might help..

I have added aragonite on top of my finer sand with no ill effects because of powerheads and critters kicking up the fine stuff so you should be fine on that front. As to the other issue about not rinsing prior to putting the sand in, I did the same thing when I picked up my 150 and everything settled down fine after an initial mini-cycle, but I was only able to save enough water to keep the sand and rock wet and livestock alive... I think at this point, if you pull it out to rinse or to start over your going to cause more trouble and make whatever cycle is taking place take longer. Just my 2 cents

The sand should settle. I have done the same thing before.

The PVC under the sand is a great idea. I have 3" PVC for my Tessalata eel and he loves it.

The aragonie should not hurt the eel.

What kind of eel is it?
