Got a little project done today. Not any kind of major overhaul, but something that is going to make life a little nicer in the winter. My workshop is a standalone building, and it can get awfully frosty in there when the temps drop. This just fouls up all kinds of projects, and generally just messes up my plans. So, today the problem got dealt with.
First, you start with a woodburning stove salvagd from a remodel job. Perfectly serviceable, just a little ugly on the outside. See what I mean:

Next, you sand the uglies off and apply a coat of black high heat paint:

Not ugly anymore!
Set the shiny new stove in place, thimble through the wall, build out your ducting and cap it with a spark arrestor.

ALl that left is to set the fire blocking on the wall behind the stove, and it will be time to fire it up. No more freezing my tail off, and I can work on temperature sensitive projects in cold weather (things like painting, acrylic, etc). A wood stove was a natural choice, since I heat my house with a wood stove (yes, that is my only form of heat. Works just fine). Since my house heat is wood, I've always got at least a couple of cords stacked up at the house.
Now I can get back to business on my tank builds, and this cold weather can kiss my fanny.

. I grew up with wood heating, and I heat my house with a wood burner. I enjoy cutting firewood, so it's kind of a natural thing for me.
