Anyone in corpus abe to give my tank some face time?

My nitrates are rediculous and I am doing 30 gallon aka 30% water changes once a week. I know it's because deitrus is building up but other than taking all my sand out I am at a loss of how to expedite the exportation of this stuff. Maybe someone is willing to come play with my power heads or something?

All of my corals are doing good, except i killed two more birdsnests.

My Lobo brain has got some serious tissue recession going on and I don't know if it's because the nitrates build up over the week until I can change the water or maybe I have something else going on in there. I also had a Mary Jane Paly/zoa melt.

But, my rastas, bam bams, hammers, and anemonie are all doing good.

So if anyone is able to come give it a check up I would be forever in your debt.

Get the detritus eating cucumbers. They are soooooo good at cleaning detritus.

Can we get some more info about the tank? Filtration, what type of powerheads and how many? What exactly are your nitrates at? Also what type of sandbed is it, crushed coral or finer grain sand? How deep?

Where in town are you located? I am on the northwest side of town, but work is located on the Texas A&M campus near the naval base. As noted above, more information will be needed to see what needs to be done. If 30 gallons is 30%, then your tank is about 90 or 100 gallons? What is your bioload? Feeding what and how much? Sump? Skimmer?

I can't wait to say it...get an Algal Turf Scrubber. Nitrates, Nitrites, Phosphates, etc...all a thing of the past. With a short amount of time, of course. Once it is up and running, forgetaboudit!

As far as cleaning detritus, the lowest (negative) impact way, once you have your scrubber running would be to focus on cleaning one rock every few days. Blow it off with the baster, and walk away. Don't go nuts and stir up the sandbed too much. Do that over a period of time, and you will have no worries. Once it comes time to do the sandbed, get yourself a gravel vac, and do a couple of tiny spots at a time till it's done. Let it take a month, so what. The key would be to go slowly so as not to impact your organisms negatively with huge clouds of filth.

hmmm, maybe the tanks over stocked, doesn't seem like to many critters when looking at it, but when typed out it seems like to much.
