    Default sand bed question

So Im going to be switching out my crushed coral bed for a sand bed. Whats a good sand to buy that doesnt blow all over the place when you stir it up or when a pistol shrimp or goby mess with it? The crush coral bed i have now gets stired up a lot by my pistol shrimp and the stuff goes everywhere.

I'd say ditch the friggin shrimp first of all. In my last tank I lost several nice chalices and acans due to a jerk pistol shrimp covering them in sand. Now to answer your question, I use this sand I get from Louis at Elegant reef that is the biggest grain you can get that isnt crushed coral. Its the same stuff in his large display tank. Does not get blown around, does not make your water milky. Its pretty coarse, but not like crushed coral or gravel....go to Elegant reef, they will know what your talking about.

That makes me really curious. I have a substrate that is fairly large sized. Actually grows coralline and the dark algaes that cover live rock. Trading out for Fiji Pink live sand.

What size is that? I believe I have. Carib-sea brand, I think.

I have that stuff from ER. It's almost more like a gravel, but sand-like-ish. If that makes sense. I like it cuz it doesn't blow around everywhere like a fine grain would. It does move around though. And I HIGHLY recommend rinsing it first, as with all substrates. This stuff was pretty dirty though, left a cement like stain on my walkway for a few weeks.
