    Default Skimmer help

So I have what I believe is a 110 octopus skimmer, It came with the tank when I bought it. I have never used a skimmer before. I set it up today. Looks to be running but the bubbles don't seem to reach the collection cup, any tips and tricks out there would be super helpful, thanks.

What is the water level in the chamber that you have it in? Should be around 7-8" IMO. Also there should be an adjustment valve on it.

I have that same skimmer, I had pretty much the same problem. It doesn't have anything to do with breaking in, try to play with the adjustable valve a bit. Im pretty sure thats what the problem is, turn the valve completely to the RIGHT and that will increase the flow to the skimmer...LEFT will decrease the flow to the skimmer...i know, kind of opposite Hope that helps.

Ok the skimmate seems to be reaching the cup now, i have also read about having the skimmer at 7 or 8 inches, right now i think its more like 10 or 11, also what is the difference between skimming wet and skimming dry?

The dry skimming foam doesn't hold as much water as the wet skimming foam. Wet skimming will get the organics out faster by collecting the watery foam at the top. Dry skimming can take longer for the organics to reach the collection cup since it has to build up enough foam to reach the top. Wet skimming is pulling saltwater out your system so keep your salinity in check if you have to frequently dump your collection cup.
