Wtb hair algae covered rock
Ok, I know this sounds crazy but the only non-coralline algae growing in my tank is the green film that covers the tank sides and its not cutting it for all my tangs, etc that like to graze. So, I'm looking for a heavily covered piece I can try to seed the tank with.

Ummm....have you ever thought about feeding nori? You might regret introducing something like that.

I doubt that it would introduce it into your tank. You've already got it. But because your tangs constantly graze you can't see it. Looks like they're nibbling at bare rock?
Also, heavily algaed rocks are often ignored by tangs. I have taken to putting rocks into the tang tank to clean it up, but the algae starts growing immediately.
To echo the others, get nori. If you're aiming to shave a few dimes, get it from the Asian market.

Thanks for the advice. I'm upping the supplement of nori. Wasn't sure if they were just grazing that well
my main concern is my new purple tang. It settled in dominance wise and is swimming with the other tangs but is looking overly skinny while rest is fat. I had hoped a new grazing rock would help until he gets with the program. I noticed it today and have been feeding extra beyond the automatic feeder to make sure he gets something in him. Currently have nori hung up to possibly promote more grazing. And at this point I probably should have the thread moved to a different section.

if he's skinny he could have internal parasites. how does his poop look, if stringy and white could have parasites. also adding more algae won't fatten them up, try misis and other meaty frozen foods.

Ya you might want to feed him mysis or even spirulina enriched brine till he fattens up or starts looking better...
