Default High School Aquatic Science Class

I teach Aquatic Science at a San Antonio High School. I am an avid marine aquarist myself. I have successfully had freshwater tanks in the classroom for years. The aquariums are incredible teaching tools that can spark interest in a variety of fish keeping topics from food chains, the water cycle, the nitrogen cycle, native and invasive species, and conservation to name a few. While assuming responsibilities of the aquarium students are learning lessons in biology, chemistry, ecology, anatomy, and physics. Students benefit from the classroom aquarium in other educational content areas aside from science; students sharpen language art skills as they are regularly engaged in research of present and related species of the tank and also write daily about changes and observations of the aquarium’s ever-changing ecosystem. As you know it is a rewarding and gratifying hobby, my interest in fish began with my 5th grade classroom aquarium and it is my hope that I can share and ignite this passion of mine with my students. It is my hope to provide my students with a meaningful experience and it is my hope to keep a saltwater tank in our classroom. I have personally provided much of the necessary equipment including a 55 gallon tank, stand, overflow box, sump, skimmer and basic plumbing, however there is more needed to get the tank going. If you are able to help us with any donations we would greatly appreciate your help. My students would also like to keep you informed of our marine tank’s progress with periodic pictures and emails. This is a list of items that we would benefit from; no matter how big or small we greatly appreciate your help and support. DM if you can help. Thanks
