    Default Acans?

Who's gottem? I want some, but haven't had much luck in past keeping them.... Please share any helpful advice about keeping, feeding, light and placement in tank. Louis has some nice ones, thinking about them alot, just wanna make sure I'm prepared to keep them before I make such a pricey investment.... If you have pics would like to see them as well....

i like to start all my acans off low light and flow then acclimate then gradually to where I want them. Feeding them at lights out or during actinic only is best... best chance of polyps being out, then start spot feeding them during normal feeding times to encourage the polyps to stay out all the time. I like to feed the tank reef chilli once a week and then lps marin pellets spot feeding once a week.

I have found all acans to do best in various conditions...some can handle strong flow and light while others like it low. Start low with all and find out what each prefers. Also make sure you don't have any lps nippers.. coral beauty and purple tangs have been bad for me in the past.

I have some for sale, red mouth with teal/purple rim. 5 heads

I have the colony about midway under 150w metal halides and the frag at the sand bed. They both look the same but I have noticed more growth on the colony as I think they like the light.

Also all my colonies put out the feeders during the day and night and readily accept food. Definetely one of my top 3 favorite corals.

    Exactly what rob said......

Mine are all mid level and puff up nice, I have one on the sand bed that isn't as fluffy and I plan to move him up soon.. They feed for me at night as soon as the lights go out... I use a flashlight to spot feed about once a week, sometimes more if I'm not lazy... They like some flow but not to much... They will expand more in low-med flow areas..

I have a purple tang and a flame angel and no nipping as of yet.... But they are well fed, which might be the only reason I am lucky, who knows..

I really wanted to keep these two fish when I was in my half circle...but one day out of the blue the purple tang went to town on all of my rainbow acans, I had about 5 various rainbow colonies that the purple tang destroyed...over the next few days he bashed through about 5 other colonies until I caught him in the act. He was a great resident for a year. The flame got ruled out in my 75g prior to the half circle build...the flame munched on my clams and acans. He was a good resident for a few months if I remember correctly.

Just keep a close eye on them and you got your prime suspects if anything goes south.

Ya I have been weary of the flame....

I put a elegance coral in and it hasn't opened up.... I'm hoping he is not the reason..

I would hate to have to catch either one of them..
